The VPA provides a range of professional development programs for principals, assistant principals and aspiring school leaders each term. Programs are designed to meet the needs of members, and are run by the Association.

Applying for Principal Class Positions

It is designed for leading teachers applying for assistant principal positions and assistant principals who are applying for principal positions.

Introduction to Leadership Coaching

This two-day workshop provides an introduction to the GROWTH coaching model for school leaders and is particularly suitable for any member of staff who has responsibility for performance reviews or supporting colleagues.

This program would be especially valuable for Principals, Assistant Principals, Learning Specialists and Leading Teachers.

 

Workshop Overview:

  • Be introduced to the GROWTH coaching system
    • Explore the GROWTH MODEL
    • Develop ISMART goals
    • Apply some of the 8 Key Coaching SKILLS
    • Explore Emotional Intelligence
    • Understand the Way of Being for coaching conversations
  • See modeled and apply the GROWTH coaching model to a range of workplace
    conversations
  • Practise giving feedback and link to coaching
  • Develop next steps for taking coaching forward in your context
  • Build or continue to build a coaching culture in your workplace

Quality Teaching Rounds

Laureate Professor Jenny Gore will be again be delivering the two-day Quality Teaching Rounds (QTR) training program. QTR is a structured evidence-based model for peer observation designed to enhance teachers’ pedagogical practice. The Quality Teaching model, a pedagogical model based on a sustained program of research, provides the framework. The training program requires a minimum of three school leaders with classroom teaching duties who have the authority to lead the implementation in their schools.
