Victorian schools have so far benefited from over $500,000 worth of free websites delivered through the sponsor-d program.

sponsor-ed provides schools with a free website built on an extremely simple to use content management system which means absolutely anyone can maintain the site with around an hour’s training. sponsor-ed websites are funded through commercial sponsorship that allows schools to not only cover the cost of the website but to also earn an ongoing stream of fundraising revenue; the potential is $10,000 pa plus. Schools have complete authority on deciding their commercial sponsors.

Many schools have had websites for close to 10 years. With this history, surprisingly it is all too common to hear of schools frustrated by their inability to take control over their site. For many schools, they are beholden to a skilled parent or a backyard web developer for their updates. sponsor-ed changes all that.

A sponsor-ed website is customised to incorporate each schools identity with an array of design templates to choose from. The website allows administrators (or teachers; anyone with a password) to create and edit text, upload photos and documents easily as well as communicate with parents through the subscriber based email gateway.

One school described the sponsor-ed website as ‘liberating’.
