Thanks for your excellent response to support government funding for government schools by sending emails on our National Day of Action last Tuesday. Gonski received over 15 000 emails from across Australia. Victorian educators responded particularly well with over 6300 responses.

The Federal Government’s Gonski review of schools’ funding will deliver its report and recommendations on December 15, 2011. The review presents an opportunity to achieve a better deal for public schools in the interest of all students and our nation as a whole. To help achieve this goal and in the lead up to the review panel’s final report, Australia’s government school parents, teachers and principal organisations together have called a National Day of Action for Public Education on Tuesday, 15 November, 2011.

Principal Class members across the state celebrated Principals Day on September 2nd through various events such as breakfasts, morning tea and afternoon drinks. It was a wonderful way to recognise the hard work and contribution Principals put into their schools and communities.

Our annual VPA Conference was held jointly with VASSP on August 1st at the Crown Conference Centre. It was a highly successful event with over 550 delegates in attendance and a first class group of presenters. It was good to see the Minister for Education The Hon. Martin Dixon open the conference and help celebrate state education and acclaim the work of our school principals.

Last term the VPA gathered feedback on the DEECD Staff Survey. Over 220 people completed this survey. This enabled the VPA in consultation to give clear and representative input into the development of this instrument.

I want to acknowledge the significant contribution of Darrell Fraser in his role as Deputy Secretary of School Education in Victoria. Darrell has worked hard to create a comprehensive school improvement agenda across the state. He has been prepared to take on huge and bold initiatives to assist communication channels.

The VPA is working hard to assist leaders across Victoria in 3 main ways – Professional Advocacy, Professional Learning and Professional Services and Support. We would like to be able to represent you too. Our members receive weekly eletters keeping them up to date with issues affecting their school and professional life.

Welcome back to the start of Term 2. I do hope this term starts well for you. It will be very interesting term as the system starts to implement a number of the government promised initiatives. The VPA is sitting at the negotiation tables representing leaders’ interests and needs.

The Victorian Principals Association aims to provide a range of key services and support for leaders in Victorian government primary schools. It provides professional services, advice through Field Officers, Project Officers and support to members around the day to day operation of schools e.g. SSSO processes, BER, Edupay, English On Line, OHSC, Network organisation.
