The VPA provides a range of professional development programs for principals, assistant principals and aspiring school leaders each term. Programs are designed to meet the needs of members, and are run by the Association.



Preparing for your School Review

Date: Tuesday 29th August

Cost: Members $100, Non-Members $120


This workshop, facilitated by Marie Ghirardello and Ian Wallis, is designed to complement the official DET School Review briefings.
By the end of the workshop participants will have:

  • gained a deeper understanding of the processes involved in the four-year review cycle
  • identified strategies to make the processes more effective and efficient


Communicating to your school community through your school newsletter

Date: Friday 1st September

Cost: Members $80, Non-Members $100


VPA and VASSP are offering this morning workshop, facilitated by Caroline Milburn, designed to help you improve the effectiveness of your school newsletter.
The workshop session will include:

  • Identifying common problems
  • Strategies to sharpen your messaging
  • Practical tips on how to source ideas and target your audience
  • Key elements of effective newsletters


Writing a great principal class application

Date: Thursday 7th September

Cost: Members $100, Non-Members $120


VPA and VASSP are offering a half day workshop, facilitated by Geoff Barclay designed to give an edge when applying for Principal Class positions.

Introduction to Leadership Coaching

Date: Tuesday 12th and Wednesday 13th September

Cost: Members $500, Non-Members $600

For principals, heads of departments, team leaders and anyone in school or system leadership role.

Managing the Unmanagable

Date: Thursday 19th & Friday 20th October

Cost: Members $1,100, Non-Members $1,250


Leading people can be a tough gig. You are expected to manage your own workload, emotions and
issues; support those with possible mental health concerns; implement change initiatives; and deal with
underperformance in a complex and constantly changing legal environment… all whilst maintaining
morale and productivity.

Returning again in 2017, this popular two day program will give you the skills to understand and
manage these issues pro-actively and confidently.
